Defeated at the hands of medical experts, Swine Influenza is a disease which is quite easily cured now, whether it affects humans or pigs. It is very rare that the disease proves to be fatal, especially in pigs. In their case, a little rest and some extra care is enough for a pig to recover from the disease. Though, sometimes antibiotics are also injected, although they do not directly help cure the disease as they do not affect a virus but they do help prevent other diseases while the pig is itself fighting the virus. Under modern animal management programme's improved techniques such as vaccinations are also being encouragingly used to suppress the Influenza. The main focus is the prevention of the spread of the virus and to keep the farm environment healthy for humans and other animals.

In human beings, the symptoms of the disease include mild fever, headache and irritability. Although, most of the people who become victim of this disease regain their health without any medical treatment but it is recommended that within two days from the first sign of the signs and symptoms, medical assistance should be sought as special care and hospitalization fastens the process of recovery. Further, the use of antiviral such as Oseltamivir and Zanamivir helps improve the condition of the patient as they prevent the spread of the virus in between the cells of the body. The Food and Drug Administration U.S. has already made arrangements for making these drugs widely available. Similarly, other health societies are also taking required steps to take the affected as well as threatened areas out of this outbreak of Swine Influenza.

The Science of Homeopathy has also come up with a solution to this disease, and according to some articles, has proved to be more influencing in its curative nature in 1919 outbreak of the disease as compared to the allopathic treatment. The internationally renowned homeopathic expert, Dr. Manish Bhatia, has come up with yet another remedy for curing Swine Influenza which consists of various medicines like Baptisia, Arsenic-album, Gelsimium, Eupatorium perf and Cantharis.

Now, knowing that the medical science has taken such steps to ensure our healthier and longer lives, if you experience any symptom of swine influenza, you need not to be worried but just have to arrange a visit to a nearby recognized and acknowledged medical centre or a homeopath.

As the name implies Swine Influenza is a derivation of the common 'flu' and the means of its spread are also quite similar, though both are caused by different type of virus. Besides, the difference also lies in the fact that apart from being transferred in between humans, it is also transferred within the swine and from swine to humans. As a matter of fact, this disease has been acquired from the swine and is quite common amongst them unlike being humans.

The people living near or working on the farms, and are in close contact with the disease affected animals are in danger of being infected by this Influenza. The ones who do not take precautionary measures such as wearing a face mask or hand gloves show more vulnerability to the disease. This shows that there is a chance of virus being inhaled from the atmosphere around the ill animal. If a worker is not careful enough to wash his hands again and again, especially before taking a meal, the chances of getting the disease are further increased. The disease takes a little time to spread within a herd of swine if one of them is affected. This is because they share the same food and drink and are in close contact. Thus it is a good practice to keep the infected animal out of the group.

Once a human being gets the virus, it is quite common that due to carelessness, the people around him also get ill. When this particular infected person sneezes or coughs, the virus is spread around in the air and is stuck to the surfaces of the house, for example, shelves, books, dishes etc. A healthy person if inhales such air or touch such surfaces followed by eating something with the same dirty hands or touching his nose and mouth, becomes a victim to the disease in possibly no time. It is believed that Swine Influenza is most contagious in its first five days as far as human adults are concerned. As for children, it is contagious for up to first ten days of the illness. It is, however, to be noted that eating pork products is not a means of the spread of the disease. Anything cooked properly, does not remain contagious as cooking kills all the present germs thoroughly.

With much advancement in the variety of ailments, there has also been a persistent revolution amongst the already present pathogenic micro-organisms. Likewise, Influenza, an infectious disease caused by RNA viruses of the family Orthomyxoviridae, has conjured up a series of versatile types and sub-types.

Due to this, it had become a dire need to categorize the viruses into respective classes according to their individual behaviour and mode of actions.

In the classification of the viruses, Influenza consists of three of the five genera of the family. It has three main types; Influenza A, Influenza B and Influenza C. All these distinct types differ in their influences on the mammals and animals that they attack on.

Influenza A is the most dangerous and potent of all and produces devastating outbreaks in domestic poultry or arouses Human Influenza Pandemic, whilst Influenza B is less common and Influenza C is not known to cause any sort of endemic or pandemic.
The first sub-division, Influenza A has further sub-types which are named on the basis of the proteins that are present on their surfaces, Hemagglutinin (HA) and Neuraminidase (NA), for example, H1N1, H2N2 and H5N1 etc.

Swine Influenza is caused by the sub-type H1N1 from the category of Influenza A. It contains 1 HA and 1 NA protein molecule as indicated by its name. This Influenza type exclusively affects people, birds, pigs, horses and other animals.

As compared to other types, it has higher mutation rate and therefore constitutes of various prevalent strains against which antibodies have still not been produced, which therefore increases its mortality and morbidity ratio.

Influenza B and C are genetically less diverse and immunity against them can be achieved over a time period but lasting immunity is still not possible as they do mutate and diversify with the passage of time.

All the distinctive categories of the Influenza virus pose unlike hazards and dangers to the lives of the innocents across the globe but through proper diagnosis and analysis, these ailments can be cured if one has unfortunately countered them.

Prevention is better than treatment' is a truly said and an agreed upon expression. Accordingly, like in case of every disease, preventive measures against the Swine influenza virus are also taken. They focus on the reduction of spread of the virus in swine, from swine to humans and in between humans.

In swine nowadays, prevention of this disease has become a little difficult as the new strains of the virus are becoming resistant to the traditional vaccines. Custom vaccines are made by some specific isolated virus in some serious cases.

Under farm management, it is a good practice to keep the virus affected pigs away from the herds as they require at least three months to recover and cause illness to the other animals in the herd in between. According to research the virus cannot survive outside the human cells for more than two weeks, except in cold temperatures (0 - 10 degree celcius). The farm temperature, thus , is kept higher than that as a preventive measure.

As far as the transmission to humans is concerned, it is prevented by the use of hand gloves and face masks by the workers on the farms, as close contact with the ill animal is the major way of catching the disease. The preventive measures of transfer of the disease in the swine also apply here. As less the animals infected, less is the chance of humans getting infected from the animals. It is also believed that the farm workers who smoke are in more danger of getting the disease with who do not.

In humans, coughs and sneezes by the infected person contain the contaminated germs and an healthy person if comes in contact with it, gets infected. As the means of catchting the disease are similar to those of common cold, the preventive measures are also similar. Washing the hands every now and again, especially after public exposure, avoiding nearness to an infected person, avoiding public gatherings, using alcohol based sanitizers to kill the virus and using chlorine to disinfect the household surfaces are among all the measures which prove helpful against this disease. It is to be noted that consuming pork products is not a way of becoming a victim to this disease as the meat which is properly cooked has no pathogens remaining.

As the ailments seem to be spreading around the globe at relatively a faster speed, so is the fear amongst many people as to how they can prevent them. Likewise, Swine Influenza has also been gaining much concern amongst many nations regarding the preventive measures that can be adopted for impeding it.

Greatest risks that these endemics and pandemics pose are to the pregnant women who seem to be much susceptible to these diseases due to the fact that their immunity is much lower at that time period. Therefore, they need to take extra precaution for protecting their baby and themselves from any possible harm.

Pregnant women should regularly visit and talk to their doctor or nurse practitioner regarding their health issue and have regular check-ups of the unborn baby to assure its well being.

They are recommended to use flu vaccines during the ailment, preferably Tamiflu or Relenza, but it should be noted that they are Class C Medications, which means that there is no adequate studies, regarding either animal or human, on the effects and influences of the medications or there might have been evidences of adverse foetal effects in animal studies but no direct observation in humans.

To be on the safer side, a doctor should be consulted before injecting any medicine in the body. Besides, pregnant women should wash their hands regularly and avoid meeting sick people or visiting the hospital unnecessarily. In most cases, Swine Influenza can cause dehydration due to vomiting and diarrhoea and may lead to "preterm labour". It is a serious pregnancy complication in which labour begins prior to 37 weeks gestation. Furthermore, it might result in the women facing pneumonia which might prove to be fatal for both the baby and the mother.

As for the case of preterm labour, the women should be cautious regarding its signs and should readily consult her mid-wife or doctor if she suspects their emergence. Most recognized signs may include; more than 5 contractions in an hour, bright red blood from the vagina, pain during urination, bladder or kidney infection, sudden gush of clear fluid from the vagina, low backache and intensive pelvic pressure.

Even though Swine Influenza might prove quite fatal for the pregnant women and their unborn babies, but timely inception and subsequent prevention and treatment can help in saving both of their lives.

Due to the recent upheaval aroused by the versatile ailments erupted in the world, there has been an increasing concern amongst people of all nations regarding the early diagnostics of the disease. For this very reason, many medical researches and reports are being launched to caution the local public regarding emergence of any severe disease.

Amongst the most common and virulent disease is that of Swine Influenza which is, formally, an acute respiratory disease of the pigs but can easily be transferred to the human population as well. It can produce unpredictable results both in the animals and the humans and fatalities can possibly do occur. Therefore, it is quite mandatory to realize and acknowledge the possible signs and symptoms of the disease.

For the swine population, it can result in fever, sneezing and coughing whilst making the animal lethargic and decreasing its appetite. It can also result in abortion, though, the mortality rate is quite low, almost 1-4%. For young animals, it can consequently produce weight loss and poor growth. According to an estimation study, a pig can loose up to 12 pounds over 3-4 weeks period.

All these symptoms are quite adjacent to those of "common cold", mostly referred to as "flu". But it is always beneficial to carry out a laboratory diagnosis at the very first instance of these symptoms and signs.

Besides, Human population is also much prone to the disease due to their expansive social net workings. Their symptoms are much similar to those of Influenza and Influenza-like diseases.

It results in fever, sore throat, coughs, sneezes, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue with vomiting and diarrhoea being amongst those that have been recently discovered and confirmed.

But these symptoms, as earlier stated, are not specific for Swine Influenza. Therefore, a differential diagnosis is required to confirm the presence of the possible ailment.

Swine influenza as we know is a viral disease. What we do not know exactly is, what is a virus? And why is this typical form named "SWINE"? A virus is a microscopic organism, a parasite, and is usually disease causing. Swine influenza is a virus typical in pigs, thus named swine, however, it sometimes, though rarely, becomes zoonosis type, that is, it transfers from animal to humans due to close contact with the animal. The early outbreaks of this virus killed millions of people. Today, thanks to the world of immunizations and vaccinations experts believe that out of 1000 people who are affected by this disease only 40 need hospitalization and only 1 dies.

Research in the mid 20th century revealed that this strain of influenza has several subtypes, which include influenza C and influenza A including H1N1, H1N2, H3N1, H3N2 and H2N3.These types are separated on the basis of the different amino acid sequences. The first outbreak of this disease was in 1918. The disease was caused by the H1N1 type and was zoonosis type. By an estimate it is believed that about 50 million to 100 million people were killed world wide by this pandemic.

The next major spread was in 1976 caused by the variant H1N1 type known as A (H3N2). The disease was suspected in an army camp when a soldier felt the symptoms of swine influenza that are; chills, fever, headache, coughing etc. This was followed by the 1988 U.S. outbreak in swine, 2007 Philippines outbreak in swine and the 2009 outbreak in humans.

The present outbreak was reported first on 2 May 2009 when a pig on a farm in Alberta, Canada was found with the disease. This is believed to have caused by a new strain of H1N1. Further researches showed that this is a "reassortment" of the two strains of the virus.

Although, the mortality rate is fairly low, governments of many countries have decided to have precautionary measures against this disease which is believed to spread as a major disease in the coming winter season.

Before the occurrence of the pandemic virus of Swine Influenza, the medical experts had already predicted the financial constraints that will eventually affect countries who would possibly become victims to the fatal flu, now or later.

The world economy, as depicted, would take a severe hit whilst hurting the livelihood of billions. This pandemic can even play more roles besides disrupting the usual affairs and commitments of the workable force of a certain country.

People may minimize face to face interactions and social gatherings, also as already being witnessed. It is liable that the effected could be from the Tertiary sector like tourism, mass transportation, retail sales, hotels and restaurant. These social sectors may then face lack of customers subsequently resulting in an overwhelming downfall world-wide.

Moreover, this pandemic is and could also influence a certain family's way of living for period unknown. Parents or guardians who work outside to support their family may not be able to do so any further as they would like to spend more time at home thus having a less exposure outside home which might ultimately infect them with the overspreading virus.. Besides, due to growing threat to the lives of the children, schools could be shut down and might also result in parents having to stay home to look after their kids.

As a result, less attendance at workplace may occur, bringing down the efficiency of the particular organization that had been associated with the parents. Thus that organization could face a loss to its economic status which might possibly prove to be a blow, ultimately, for the national economy.

Amongst the effected communities, Mexico had been the major victim with death toll reaching to 152. During this whole chaotic moment, all businesses and other social sectors were closed to curb the spread of Swine Influenza. This unearthly virus has caste a dark shadow over the globe, the World Bank said yesterday it was too early to make an accurate cost estimate of the global economic impact of the rapidly spreading swine-flu pandemic.

The Pork Industry, across the globe, had also suffered a deadlock but after some research by US centre for Disease Control and Prevention informed, "You cannot get swine flu by eating pork", possibly because of the reason that cooking kills all the pathogens. Another view regarding the disease had been put up by the Associated Press (AP) which expressed that the US economy could end up shrinking a bit more than expected estimate only and only because of the spreading pandemic.

So far many medical research centres have worked upon the Swine Influenza, whether it can be cured or not. So far all the researches have revealed that the disease is curable with the help of prompt treatment. Certain drugs have been tested to check their efficacy regarding the treatment. The centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) stated that this flu can be treated very early, if caught, with two of the antiviral medications, Tamiflu (Oseltamivir) and Relenza (Zanamivir). These must be taken within 48 hours after the first symptom recognised for better results.

Currently there are four types of antiviral drugs available and are licensed for use in the US, Amantadine, Oseltamivir, Rimantadine and Zanamivir. It must be noted that these drugs do not prevent us from getting the disease but they only lessen the symptoms and produce antibodies which remain after the disease has gone and prevent countering any other disease.

The CDC and World Health Organisation are working upon a new task which is based upon producing a vaccine which can prevent Swine Influenza. The Drug Manufacturers are already in the process and have been provided with required material used in the manufacturing. It has been suggested that the vaccine will be available by this summer (2009).Though the flu can be dealt with common antiviral drugs as soon as the early symptoms appear.

However, other measures should also be taken, like, drinking fluids, which help in dehydration which, in a viral attack, is likely to take place. Sports drinks can also be beneficial. Proper diet with supplements such as vitamin C, hydration and proper rest help boost the immune system and are also necessary.

Another precaution according to the medical experts is that Aspirin is to be avoided by the infected people under the age of 18 due to the risk of Reyes Syndrome.

A major problem encountered while treating viral infections is that the viruses can continue to mutate and adjust its protein coating through series of chemical reactions and render the anti-viral medication ineffective. Thus symptomatic relief achieved by supportive therapy is of a greater value since it strengthens the hosts own immune system.

Ongoing research will surely come up with an effective treatment to counter the curse of swine flu within the next few years to come.

The phenomenon of swine flu, which is commonly found in pigs, is H1N1 virus. The consequences become severe when this bug invades human means and it then is known as a pandemic virus. This agonizing deadly disease has shaken many countries recently.

It is a respiratory track infection, which spreads from person to person. The early symptoms may be dealt with local drugs but if such measures aren't taken the disease may show its deadly moves. Early diagnose is based on the symptoms which can be high fever, body aches, headaches, cough, runny nose, fatigue or tiredness, diarrhoea and/or vomiting.

The spreading of this virus is similar to the common human flu i.e. from one person to another. Care must be taken that the person infected from this particular illness is to be kept away from other individuals. There had not been many cases and only those individuals were infected who had close exposure to pigs.

Recent studies had shown that this virus is not having any relation to the appetizing meal (pork). So the lovers who can not bare the sight of pork being abandoned shouldn't give up as it is safe to have the scrumptious meal.

Unlike most recent years, in which one or two cases of human swine flu were reported in the United States, at least 40 cases of swine flu in humans were reported as of April 27, 2009-the date CDC declared the issue a public health emergency.

The global outbreak had also alerted medical research centres and antiviral flu drugs have been identified, like Tamiflu (oseltamivir) and Relenza (zanamivir) are available to the chaos creator. These drugs are to be taken within limit as they are not prescribed for the common viral infections. Other precautions are vital in order to prevent this virus spreading rapidly. So far, this virus has been shunned by the South Asian countries but they must be aware by the facts that if this bug erupts conspicuously, it could hardly be treated.
